Thank you to all who attended
our 3rd public meeting at the New Port Richey Library. We had a
great meeting today. Nicole Deg gave a synopses of our upcoming Pasco Rally
tentatively scheduled for October 7th 2006. She noted that we have
a few places in mind but will be posting more information as she and her
volunteers get all the details in order.
HAC welcomed in our new board member Wil Nickerson who has been instrumental in working on an address and data base committee. Also announced today was Ginny Stevans was voted in as an interim President until the elections in December. Chris Schnapp gave us her report for the address and database committee. The committee is working very hard compiling letters and email addresses and physical addresses so it is easy to inform legislators and inform members of future meetings and functions and Rallies. We had another guest speaker
Randy Johnson who is a Republican candidate for Chief Financial Officer of
Florida. He presented his platform and gave us a detailed report of his plans
for the re-construction of Citizens Insurance and his plans to de-regulate the
insurance Industry in Florida. We had a question and answer session after his There was a surprise guest speaker that asked to give his platform and plan of action for the insurance crisis. We welcomed John Russell who is a Democrat running for US Representative in District 5. He outlined his plan to start a catastrophic disaster fund which would kick in when the insurance companies reached a certain percentage of loss. This he believes would allow them to keep their premiums down when a disaster happens such as hurricane Katrina or Andrew. The board let everyone know that we have been in contact with State Representative John Legg and we are planning to meet with him hopefully this week to discuss getting our petitions to the legislation and the Governor. HAC also had the opportunity to listen in on a Citizens board meeting and noted some of the comments that were made. It was said that “PASCO COUNTY IS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE FOR HIGH RISK SINKHOLES AND POSSIBLE FUTURE RATE INCREASES” They also feel that there is a crisis situation for commercial and business insurance but nothing was mentioned that there was a crisis for homeowners. They also stated that their Cat fund was under budget and that the had $417 million in surplus. The icing on the cake was the fact they said “PREMIUMS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE” We are going to receive an audio or video of the meeting and will bring you more information on this meeting. St. Petersburg Times reporter Tom Zucco wanted us to know he is doing another story on the insurance crisis. He is looking for someone who had a sinkhole investigation done and no sinkhole was found. Please if you can be of any assistance to him contact him at 727-893-8247 or at zucco@sptimes.com We had great press coverage today with Channel 8 News, Channel 10 News, and we believe Bay News 9, There was also Randy Diamond a Times Reporter. We feel it was a good meeting and with both a Democrat and a Republican speaker we still remain non-political. Hopefully in the coming weeks we can bring others to speak on their platforms. Everyone should be well informed voters this year because it is an important vote. We will continue to fight with our Rallies, petition drive, e-mail’s, letters, and lots of press. With the hope of having Chapters in every County in Florida! Please if you are willing to start a Chapter in your County or would like to start a Rally in another County please contact HAC. Thank You! Ginny Stevans HAC Florida, Inc. President |
