Dear HAC Members, Board, and Volunteers,  

One year ago today we started this journey toward affordable insurance. From a small group of frustrated homeowners gathered at a Town Hall meeting, we have grown into a better informed group of over 1000 and have recently combined efforts with other groups across Florida. We now are over one million voices strong.

It is hard to believe it has only been a year, as this fight we have undertaken seems like a long fought battle. We have not won the war but have had some great success. In the beginning we were know as Homeowners Against Citizens as we did not understand the complexity of the insurance business and thought only those with Citizens Insurance were feeling the pain of overpriced insurance. As we grow and are better informed we will continue to change and appreciate everyone’s support and help. We are now know as Having Affordable Coverage simply because that is what our goal and main mission of the group is. We want reliable and affordable coverage returned back to the people of this great state.

Some of the recent changes we have had help in are: 

Rescission of the 20% rule for Citizens Insurance

Anti-Cherry Picking Legislation

Repeal the “Use & File” to “File & Use”

Rate Reductions (Small but it’s a start)

Condo’s went from Commercial property to Residential Commercial
   (still fighting for Residential only!)

 HAC’s Future: 

In the future we promise to bring you as much information and helpful hits on ways to save on your insurance. We hope to keep up with ever-changing insurance laws and policies and bring a better awareness to consumers. We will not only be lobbying for change and relief here in Florida but part of our future plans is to bring our case to Washington and along with our Governor try and implement a national catastrophic plan.  

We sincerely thank everyone who has volunteered for HAC, sent out hundreds (thousands) of e-mails, letters, and phone calls. Also our thanks to those elected officials who have listened and heard our pleas for help. We appreciate all your hard work and efforts.
